A unique new exercise program is being offered to USS Peleliu crew members this month while they're deployed at sea. Called Pitaiyo, the exercise style is sometimes referred to as "yoga on steroids."

Gunnery Sgt. Jennifer M. Antoine, a Pitaiyo instructor, explains it this way:

“PITAIYO is more than an exercise regime. It’s a way of life and a way to recognize that we are all in control of what we put in or take out of our orbit.”

The name "Pitaiyo" is an acronym for "Put It Together All In Your Orbit" and is inspired by Pilates, yoga, and tai-chi. So, what exactly is an orbit? Well, the website Pitaiyo.com says it's someone's "mantra or lifestyle."

The hour-long classes are twice a week in the ship’s main medical facility.

The USS Peleliu left San Diego for its deployment on September 17.
