Wind advisory issued for San Diego County valleys and mountains

Gusty winds are expected Thursday in San Diego County's mountains and valleys, forecasters said.

A National Weather Service wind advisory is scheduled to remain in effect until noon Friday in the valleys and mountains, where winds of 20-30 miles per hour with gusts of up to 45 mph are possible.

"Surface high pressure over the Great Basin will bring periods of gusty northeast to east winds near the coastal foothills into early this afternoon," the NWS advisory said. "Winds will decrease slightly and continue into Friday morning, especially for San Diego County."

The strongest gusts are expected through this morning, and again Friday morning, near mountain ridge tops and along coastal mountain slopes into the inland valleys.

Meteorologists cautioned that the wind could break tree limbs and make driving difficult, especially for motorists in high-profile vehicles. Drivers were advised to use extra caution.
