No Country for Old Men took four awards including one for Tommy Lee Jones (Miramax)
'Tis the season to be giving out ye awards. The latest to announce its picks for the best of 2007 is the San Diego Film Critics Society (of which I am a member). The local organization of print, radio, television, and online film critics voted and announced winners today. No Country for Old Men and There Will Be Blood tied for the most awards, each garnering four. The organization also gives out an annual Body of Work Award to recognize a performer, filmmaker or crafts person who excelled in a particular year. This year the award went to Christian Bale for his stellar work in 3:10 to Yuma, Rescue Dawn and I'm Not There . Each year there is also an award given in memory of film critic Kyle Counts. This year the Kyle Counts Award went to local Point Loma High School teacher Larry Zeiger who has helped the SDFCS gather student work for the student festival it co-sponsors, Film School Confidential: A Showcase of of San Diego and Tijuana Filmmakers. Zeiger retired from thirty years of teaching this year and he inspired many students in both theater and film. I personally worked with him to curate films for Film School Confidential and have always been amazed by the wonderful work from his students and by the passion he instills in young people to both make films and appreciate innovative work made by others.
And without further ado, the envelope please...
