Authorities Monday publicly identified the third of three women killed last week when a multi-ton section of sea bluff collapsed onto them at Grandview Surf Beach in Leucadia.
Elizabeth Charles, 62, died at the scene of the accident near Batiquitos Lagoon, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office.
When the section of cliff sloughed off the bluff at the popular surfing site shortly before 3 p.m. Friday, Charles, a San Francisco resident, was buried in a roughly 25- by 30-foot earthen pile along with Julie Davis, 65, and Davis' 35-year-old daughter, Anne Clave.
Clave, from Encinitas, died at Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla about 4 1/2 hours later. Davis, whose hometown was not released, died shortly after arrival at Scripps Memorial Hospital Encinitas.
Following an overnight closure, officials reopened the beach off Neptune Avenue on Saturday morning with signs posted to the north and south of the site of the triple fatality advising the public to keep out of the "active area."
Officials recommended that beachgoers "avoid areas near or under the bluffs and keep a recommended safe distance of 25 to 40 feet."
Geologists will assess the coastline in the area for any further potential collapse threats, according to city officials.
"Our coastline is a beautiful area, but the coastline is eroding," Encinitas lifeguard Capt. Larry Giles said.
