Members of the organization “Justice Overcoming Boundaries” organized a rally outside of Darrell Issa's San Marcos district office Thursday afternoon.

The organization was joined by other community members hoping to deliver a message to the Congressman. They want Issa to address immigration in his district.

“Previous communications with the Congressman's office have relayed the message that Congressman Issa does not believe immigration reform is an issue in his district,” said Nedy Velasquez, an organizer.

The demonstrators said immigrants are just as American as apple pie and rice and beans, so they delivered a whole apple pie and a plate of rice and beans to his office.

When they approached his office, the door was locked and there was no response when they knocked on the door. Over the phone an intern said Mr. Issa and his chief of staff were both in Washington D.C.

Estela De Los Rios said this response does not deter them and they will continue trying to deliver their message.

“We're gonna keep coming because we are voting and we're watching and we're gonna hold him accountable because this is his district and the constituents that are here, we have to hold him accountable,” she said. “Immigration is an issue that he needs to addressed and we're going to keep coming back until he listens.”

Members also wanted the rally to symbolize the local community's support for Comprehensive Inclusive Immigration Reform, notably HR 1177- The US Citizenship Act of 2021, currently under consideration in the U.S. Congress.

We did reach out to Mr. Issa’s office for a statement, but none was provided.
