At the end of the night, Wareham took requests, which led to the band playing some Galaxie 500 tunes. Wareham formed Galaxie 500 in the late 80s with fellow Harvard students Damon Krukowski and Naomi Yang. They went on to record three albums, build a devout following in Europe and a cult following in the States, all before disbanding three years later when Wareham left the band unexpectedly.
Dean and Britta's "13 Most Beautiful" show was one of my favorites last year. I did an audio story and post about how the duo scored Warhol's screen tests. Of course, I loved seeing the Warhol acolytes from The Factory sitting for their screen tests, which were set to tonally perfect music by Dean and Britta. But I also discovered how much I liked the Galaxie 500 and Luna songs the duo (backed by a band) performed at the end of the night.
On Wednesday night, Dean and Britta will be in San Diego performing a mostly Galaxie 500 repertoire. Apparently, while touring with "13 Most Beautiful," they encountered more Galaxie 500 fans - just like the ones at The Loft back in 2009.
Galaxie 500 was (and still kind of is) new to me. But CityBeat associate editor Kelly Davis has been a fan since back in the day. Her recent profile in CityBeat is a must read before you go to the show at Anthology (which you should).
