Remakes don't generally excite me but when you have Guillermo Del Toro producing, well it gets my attention. So here's the new trailer for "Don't Be Afraid of the Dark" (opening August 26).
"Don't Be Afraid of the Dark" was a 1973 TV movie starring Kim Darby and Jim Hutton. They played a couple that inherits a mansion in habited by demon-like creatures that are after the wife. The remake tweaks the premise but keeps the horror concept the same. Now it's a young girl (Bailee Madison) who goes to live with her father (Guy Pearce) and his new girlfriend (Katie Holmes), and the little girl discovers creatures that want to claim her as one of their own. The teaser trailer looked promising and the new trailer provides temptation as well, although I actually hate watching horror trailers because they tend to give away too much. Part of the fun of a watching a good horror film is not knowing where it might go and this trailer shows me thing that I wish I could have discovered in the film.
So if you don't want to know too much, skip the trailer. But if you are too eager for something that has Guillermo Del Toro's name on it then click away. I think you'll like what you see. The film marks the feature directing debut of Troy Nixy, and it looks like he has a good visual eye and sense for atmospheric horror. So here's hoping to be afraid in the dark.
