If you love movies then you do not want to miss an opportunity to see the rarely screened 1920 silent version of "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde" with Russ Peck providing live accompaniment on the Fox Theatre's original pipe organ. The San Diego Symphony presents one screening only on Sunday October 30 at 7:30pm at Symphony Hall.
There's nothing I love more than getting an opportunity to see an old classic that I have never seen before and to see that film for the first time on the big screen. Add to that the delectable pleasure of a live music score by Russ Peck and you've got an irresistible film event. I have been to a number of other San Diego Symphony Silent Movies -- most notably Buster Keaton in "The General" (with organ accompaniment) and the German classic "Nosferatu" (with full symphony) -- and both were splendid and memorable events. So I am looking forward to seeing this 1920 version of the Robert Louis Stevenson tale that stars John Barrymore.
Here's a clip from one of the transformation scenes.
Silent movies have a true magic as they take us back to an earlier technology and remind us of the wonders of cinema. I hope you will join me for this spectacular event.
