San Diego officials plan to study more ways to clean up the bad air in Barrio Logan. The movement of goods through the Port of San Diego's 10th Avenue Marine Terminal by ships, trucks and trains releases 256 million pounds of greenhouse gases each year.

San Diego will receive $2 million from the Port to study the feasibility of building a freeway on-ramp from the 10th Avenue terminal to the 5 and 15 interstate highways. The Environmental Health Coalition's Diane Takvorian says if built, the on-ramp would go a long way toward reducing pollution in Barrio Logan.

"The freeway access project will prevent approximately 1200 trucks from driving through Barrio Logan every day," said Takvorian. "That's what's currently happening. While they are required to go around the community, many of them do not."
