Elevated Surf And Gusty Winds In San Diego County Valleys, Mountains Ahead

A long west-northwest swell continued to elevate surf along San Diego County beaches early Tuesday, while gusty Santa Ana winds threatened to buffet the valleys and mountains through the afternoon, meteorologists said.

A wind advisory for valley and mountain areas was scheduled until 6 p.m., according to the National Weather Service, which said sustained northeast to east winds of 20 to 30 miles per hour and gusts up to 55 mph were possible.

Motorists were advised to watch for broken tree limbs and other debris on roadways.

The weather service also issued a beach hazards statement through 10 a.m., saying 3 to 5 foot waves and strong rip currents were likely, especially along west-facing beaches south of Del Mar.

The surf will slowly lower Tuesday afternoon before increasing again at night, the weather service said.
