The San Diego Tourism Authority launched a $19 million advertising campaign this week. It comes on the heels of a record year for tourism in the region. Recent numbers also show an uptick in air travel to San Diego, signaling the rise is more than a regional trend.

Partial government shutdown impacts air travel

Airport staff including TSA screeners and air traffic controllers are among those who worked without pay during the partial government shutdown. President Donald Trump announced a deal Friday to end the shutdown after several airports experienced a disruption in air traffic due to people not showing up for work. Several airline executives also spoke out to say the shutdown could leave long-term effects on the industry.

World economy might be sluggish in 2019

At the World Economic Forum in Switzerland this week, global leaders discussed issues such as rising U.S. interest rates and trade concerns with China. During the event, the International Monetary Fund trimmed its estimate for global economic growth.
