Health Department Ends Weekly Swine Flu Reports

The San Diego county health department has stopped issuing weekly swine flu updates, in another sign of waning flu activity.

The health department this week chose to stop issuing weekly reports, deciding to only alert the media of swine-flu related deaths in the county.

To date, San Diego has had 850 hospitalizations and 62 deaths related to swine flu. A spokesman for the health department says it has been nearly two months since the county has had a swine-flu related death.

A waning public interest in flu shots has caused supplies to build up. As of Wednesday, the county health department had 90,000 doses of vaccine in stock. They hope to use some of it this weekend by offering vaccinations at two community clinics.

The Alliance Health Clinic on El Cajon Boulevard and Escondido Family Medicine Clinic on Ash Street will offer vaccinations to all individuals, free of charge.
