Sept. 1 - Sonido de la Frontera (cumbia)

Sept. 8 - Skrapez (electronic)

Sept. 15 - Ken Anderson, Martin Luther King Jr. Community Choir San Diego (gospel/spirituals)

The bands selected were scouted by Kurt Kohnen, KPBS radio production manager and a musician active in the local music scene.

"It’s been a challenging time for our community, and music helps us process our emotions and learn more about ourselves. Musicians are a priceless resource for San Diego - they bring us joy, increase our mental health, and help unify our community. The KPBS Summer Music Series is our way of celebrating and supporting our local musicians,” says Kohnen.

“This great lineup reflects the incredibly diverse talent that lives right here in our hometown. Additionally, we hope to give the listening public even more motivation to go out and experience some live music in the coming weeks as the world opens up again post pandemic,” says John Decker, KPBS interim associate general manager of content.

A new episode will air each Thursday for eight weeks on Midday Edition and every Friday on Evening Edition, July 29 - September 17, and at kpbs.org/summermusicseries.
