Experiencing Trauma As A Child Can Have Lasting Mental And Physical Health Impacts
Adverse childhood experiences, such as being abused or having a parent with mental illness, can have long-term impacts on one's physical and mental health.
A documentary on the subject, "Resilience: The Biology of Stress & The Science of Hope," will be screened Wednesday, Jan. 30 at 5:30 p.m. Dr. Morgan Shaw, the clinical director of the San Diego-based Institute on Violence, Abuse and Trauma, will lead a discussion after the screening.
The event will be held at Qualcomm Auditorium in Sorrento Valley. It is organized by Jewish Family Service of San Diego. The public is invited to the screening and asked to RSVP at jfssd.org.
Shaw joins Midday Edition on Thursday to discuss the impacts of adverse childhood experiences.
