When climate scientists were asked about bright spots this year in the campaign against climate change, youth movements were often mentioned.
One girl inspiring those movements is 16-year-old Greta Thunberg of Sweden. She was named Time’s Person of the Year.
“We’ve had 30 years of pep talking and selling positive ideas and I’m sorry, but it doesn’t work because if it would have the emissions would have gone down by now, Thunberg said in a TED Talk. "They haven’t, and yes we do need hope, of course we do, but the one thing we need more than hope is action."
Spurred by Thunberg, people young and old participated in climate strikes this year, including here in San Diego.
Despite the Trump Administration’s vow to withdraw from the Paris climate agreement, leaders, organizations and millions of concerned individuals across the globe are taking action.
