One of the most significant elections in San Diego County this year is the race for the 50th Congressional District, a traditionally conservative district that has been represented by a Duncan Hunter— either the father or the son — for the last four decades.

Duncan D. Hunter resigned from his seat in January after pleading guilty to misusing campaign funds. Now there are four leading candidates running to replace him.

Republican Carl DeMaio is one of them. He's a radio talk show host and served on the San Diego City Council for one term. The top two vote-getters in the March 3 primary will advance to the November general election. The 50th Congressional District has a population of 750,000 and covers much of north and east San Diego County.

DeMaio joined Midday Edition on Monday to discuss his views on some of the major issues in the race.
