Navy Destroyer Collides With Civilian Dive Vessel Off Southern California Coast

A Navy commander says a U.S. destroyer on a training exercise collided into a civilian dive vessel off Southern California's Pacific coast.

U.S. Navy Commander Greg Hicks says there were no injuries reported from the accident late Sunday and officials were investigating the cause.

Hicks says the USS Shoup, a guided-missile destroyer, suffered scrapes but both vessels were functioning.

The 509-foot-long Shoup carries about 380 people and is training out at sea with the Abraham Lincoln strike group.

Hicks says the civilian vessel is believed to be a 21-foot-long dive vessel.
