A Marine who went through basic training at Camp Pendleton died over the weekend when he fell from the 17th floor of the Ilima Hotel at Waikiki Beach in Honolulu, Hawaii. The Honolulu Star-Advertiser reports 19-year-old Luke Monahan fell from the hotel balcony Saturday night and was rushed to The Queen's Medical Center, where he died hours later.
Luke's mother Eileen told the Star-Advertiser her son promised the last time they spoke (via Skype) that he wouldn't drink during his four-day pass to Waikiki:
Luke grew up in Palos Verdes, near Los Angeles. He was stationed at Marine Corps Base Hawaii. Honolulu Police are investigating his death.
