A NATO soldier was killed and three American soldiers injured when their U.S. military helicopter crashed Wednesday after hitting a communications antenna in Kandahar province, Afghanistan.

The NATO International Security Assistance Force released a casualty report Thursday reporting the crash, but not naming the home country of the fallen soldier:

It is ISAF policy to defer casualty identification procedures to the relevant national authorities.

However, a senior local security official told NBC News the aircraft that crashed was a U.S. military helicopter, and three of the crew members were American soldiers.

The Associated Press reports a total of 15 NATO service members were injured in the crash.

Afghan army spokesman Mohammad Mohsin told Agence France-Presse (AFP) the chopper that went down was a Chinook.

The identity of the NATO soldier who died in the accident has not yet been released.
