As sexual assault allegations against famed comedian Bill Cosby mount, Navy Secretary Ray Mabus announced today the Navy is revoking the title of honorary Chief Petty Officer presented to Cosby in 2011.
According to a Navy news release:
The Navy is taking this action because allegations against Mr. Cosby are very serious and are in conflict with the Navy's core values of honor, courage and commitment.
It was Mabus, and Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy Rick West, who pinned on Cosby’s golden anchors at a ceremony in the Naval Heritage Center back on Feb. 17, 2011, according to Stars and Stripes.
Cosby often credited the Navy as providing him with the discipline to succeed in the world of entertainment. He spent four years in the Navy as a hospital corpsman after enlisting in 1956, and was honorably discharged as a 3rd Class Petty Officer in 1960.
