New Fire Chief Selected In Oceanside

The acting chief of the Oceanside Fire Department was named the permanent head of the agency, it was announced today.

Darryl Hebert, a 20-year veteran of the OFD, replaces former Chief Terry Garrison, who announced his resignation last October, citing personal reasons. Hebert had served as acting fire chief since Garrison's departure in December.

Hebert, who joined the OFD in 1990, was selected to head the department permanently following a nationwide search. It is the first internal selection for the post in Oceanside in more than 20 years.

Hebert will be officially sworn in "in the very near future," city officials said.
