A San Diego County sheriff's deputy shot and killed a reportedly suicidal man who threatened to attack a deputy with a screwdriver.
Lt. John Maryon said the shooting happened Wednesday afternoon in a rural area of Japatul Valley near Alpine.
Deputies responded to a call of an apparently disturbed man at a residence who was threatening to force authorities to shoot him. The man also reportedly said he wanted to overdose on drugs.
A deputy encountered the man on a road nearby, hitting him with a stun gun and then opening fire with a handgun.
The suspect died at the scene.
The circumstances of the shooting are under investigation.
Maryon says a screwdriver was found next to the man's body. No deputies were injured.
