UCSD Admins Under Investigation For Inappropriate Grade Changes

One of the founding members of U.C. San Diego's Preuss School says investigators are trying to find out whether administrators there intentionally changed students’ grades. KPBS reporter Ana Tintocalis has more.

Preuss is a public charter school that's operated by UCSD. It's gotten national attention for getting poor and minority students into college. But university auditors are now looking into whether top educators there changed grades or inappropriately recorded them.

Professor Cecil Lytle helped to establish the school and was the first to call for an investigation. He says firing the school's top administrators is not out of the question.

Lytle : If there's validity to the accusations, we'll take steps. If there's no validity to the accusations, I think I will then be a bit angry and annoyed that people create this chaos with no merit. But the report will tell us what our next steps are.

That report is expected to be released by next month. Meanwhile San Diego Unified School District which oversees all public charter schools in the city may also launch an investigation.
