A new California rule requiring all eighth grade students take Alegbra regardless of their skill level has been put on-hold.
A Superior Court judge in Northern California ordered the state Board of Education to postpone the mandate yesterday/Tuesday.
The board approved the first-ever mandate in the summer after a forceful last-minute recommendation from Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.
But the mandate was opposed by two prominent state education groups.
They sued the board
, saying the mandate is too costly and sets some kids up for failure.
The judge ruled the mandate needs to be formally heard and decided in court.
