The San Diego Police Gang Suppression Unit has arrested an 18-year-old man in connection with the shooting deaths of two teen-agers earlier this month.
KPBS Reporter Alan Ray has the story.
Police say 17-old Monique Palmer and 15-year-old Michael Taylor were shot and killed as they were leaving a party in the Valencia Park area early on the morning of December 6th. They were walking with friends away from the part when three vehicles loaded with suspected gang members drove past them flashing guns and gang signs. Then two men from the cars walked to them and ... and shots were fired.
Monique, who belong to anti-gang club at Lincoln High School, died where she was shot. Michael died later at a hospital.
Later that day 18-year-old Derrelle Oliver was arrested. He was charged then with assault with a deadly weapon for threatening people at the party with a gun...and later with directly threatening Palmer and her friends.
A day after the shootings, Oliver was released on bond.
After continuing investigation by the Police Gang Suppression Unit Oliver was re-arrested at his home in the Rolando area last night...and he's been booked into the county jail on two counts of murder.
