Trolley Still Not Running After Plane Crash Disruption

Trolley service in Santee, interrupted when a single-engine plane crashed into power lines, did not resume today as expected, but should be up and running tomorrow, according to Metropolitan Transit System officials.

Trolley service was suspended about 10:30 a.m. Wednesday when the single-engine Czech Aircraft Works Sportcruiser crashed on Cuyamaca Street, draggingdown about 150 feet of power lines for the light-rail system.

The rental aircraft came to rest upside down, trapping the 79-year-old pilot and sole occupant. It took emergency crews roughly 30 minutes to free the Del Mar man, who suffered non-life-threatening arm injuries.

Officials with MTS had hoped to resume trolley service between El Cajon and Santee sometime this morning. MTS spokeswoman Rob Schupp said that didn't happen but service should resume Saturday morning. During the delay, the agency is offering bus service in affected areas, he said.
