I love that Balboa Park is an open urban oasis where all of San Diego's diversity comes together to learn and relax. My son and I love visiting during summer days to explore the butterfly garden, botanical gardens and outdoor spaces of the park.

This is a picture of my 5-year-old in front of the fountain in June 2013. He was just messing around to pass the time, but people started giving him change to do some skateboard tricks. I imagine that people won't think it is so cute when he is a teenage skater, nor would he want to be seen with his mom. So, it was a moment to celebrate his fleeting childhood. And, in a special place where I often visited as a child.

KPBS is collecting your Balboa Park memories as the city marks the 100th anniversary of Balboa Park's 1915 Panama-California Exposition.
