The movie critic at The Navy Times has a piece of advice for Sailors planning to see "Battleship" this weekend: don't over think it.
The plot of "Battleship" involves an epic battle between the U.S. Navy’s Pacific Fleet and invading aliens.
Critic Chuck Vitch says:
We love our effects-driven blockbusters big, brash, loud and dumb — and “Battleship” covers all those bases. Viewed with the proper mindset, it may be some of the stupidest fun you have all summer at the octoplex.
But what does the Navy think about the movie? After all, some might see it as a reflection on that branch of the service. Well, the Navy posted the following on its Facebook page:
We cannot ENDORSE Battleship or tell you to GO SEE IT.
However, we CAN tell you that if aliens did attack-your Navy, which is focused on Warfighting First, Operating Forward & Being Ready, would defeat them in LESS THAN 2 HOURS.
The Navy put together this short film on what it was like for Sailors to take on the role of film actor:
