Friends and family today were mourning a popular San Diego-area professor who was reportedly stabbed to death at his Tijuana apartment.
Henry Abalayan Acejo, 45, was found dead of numerous stab wounds in the Rio Zone shortly after 11 p.m. Dec. 18, Mexican authorities announced Tuesday.
According to The San Diego Union-Tribune, Acejo was described by one colleague as "an angel on Earth.''
Acejo, who was from the Philippines, taught taught Filipino language courses at Southwestern College and at San Diego State University. He also taught English as a second language at those colleges, as well as Mid-City Community College in San Diego.
Friend and fellow Mid-City teacher Ondine Massot told the Union-Tribune that Acejo lived in Tijuana because it was cheaper.
The Baja California Attorney General's Office did not address a motive for the crime but according to Massot, Acejo was too trusting and may have been killed for the money that his sister was sending him so he could fly home for the holidays, the Union-Tribune reported.
