A major rainstorm approaching San Diego forced organizers to cancel two events scheduled for Friday.
The Padres announced that the Holiday Wonderland at Petco Park, which opened last weekend, will be closed Friday because of the forecast calling for heavy rain in the region.
The team's original plan was to have the attraction featuring snow scenes, decorations and rides open each weekend in December before Christmas, along with a few days before the holiday, for a total of a dozen days.
On the Padres' official Twitter account, the team announced that a makeup day will be added next Thursday.
Also, the Port of San Diego has canceled a dedication ceremony for a gateway sign for Barrio Logan that had been scheduled for Friday morning.
The sign spanning Cesar Chavez Parkway is part of a $1.75 million project that also includes crosswalk enhancements, lane adjustments and landscaping.
A street fair set to begin at noon Saturday in Barrio Logan is still on.
