Year In Review 2013: San Onofre Power Plant Shutdown

As part of our series looking back over the biggest stories of the year, we take a look at the demise of the San Onofre nuclear power plant, that used to provide almost 20 percent of this region's electricity. In June, about 18 months after a radioactive leak took the plant offline, the operator announced the plant would shut down permanently.

Now the debate is over who will pick up the tab, where replacement power will come from and what will happen to the radioactive waste left on site. KPBS North County editor Alison St. John covered this story and joins Amita Sharma with a look back.
