This week San Diego County went into the full Phase 1A of COVID-19 vaccinations.
That means individuals designated under Tiers 1, 2 and 3 of Phase 1A can now all receive the COVID-19 vaccine. Those individuals include all healthcare personnel and the residents and employees of long-term care facilities.
As of Friday, the county says about 60,000 San Diegans have received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine and 2,700 people have received both shots.
Alyson Kaye is a pediatric nurse practitioner at Vista Community Clinic and said their multiple locations have administered over 220 initial doses of the Moderna vaccine to employees since the end of last calendar year.
“We got our first shipment of vaccine the last week of December. We were able to give our first doses on December 29, and there has just been a palpable level of excitement,” Kaye said.

On Friday, Vista Community Clinic’s Jesse Resendiz received his initial shot.
“I know there are some types of side effects that may potentially come, but I feel like it's safe, and not only protecting myself, but protecting the community as well,” Resendiz said.
The next group to be vaccinated in San Diego County will be those from group 1B-Tier 1, which includes people aged 75 and older and essential workers in the Education & Childcare, Emergency Services and Food & Agriculture sectors.
