First Case Of Mad Cow Disease Discovered In Calif.
Two major South Korean retailers have suspended sales of U.S. beef following the discovery of mad cow disease in a dairy cow in Central California.
Federal officials insist the beef supply is safe. But as the California Report's Sasha Khokha explains, consumer advocates have their doubts.
The discovery of a dairy cow with Mad cow disease in California's Central Valley has already has a wide range of reactions. USDA officials say the discovery proves US screening of cattle for mad cow disease works. Meanwhile, South Korea - the 4th largest importer of US beef - says it's suspending imports. Back in 2004, US beef imports fell 75 percent after the first time mad cow was found in US cattle.
