Two Open Seats For County Supervisor

The largely Republican Board of Supervisors could see a shakeup depending on the outcome of races in districts 4 and 5. Both seats are open due to term limits on Supervisors Ron Roberts and Bill Horn. District 4 covers much of the city of San Diego. District 5 covers much of the North County, from Oceanside to Borrego. The elections are playing out amid a backdrop of the current board siding with the Trump administration over California’s sanctuary law.

San Diego County District Attorney

The battle to be San Diego County’s top prosecutor features the current Interim District Attorney Summer Stephan and public defender Genevieve Jones-Wright. Stephan has promised incremental reforms to the criminal justice system, while Jones-Wright is making it a focus of her campaign. The local DA’s race has received some national attention lately, with billionaire George Soros donating money to an outside group that is running ads in favor of Jones-Wright.

San Diego County Sheriff

Voters will be asked to decide between two men with decades of experience in law enforcement. Current Sheriff Bill Gore has held the job since 2009 after a lengthy career at the FBI. Dave Myers has been with the San Diego County Sheriff’s department for more than 30 years, rising to the rank of commander. In recent months, Myers claimed Gore retaliated against his candidacy by moving his office into a former closet. Gore has accused Myers of campaigning while on duty.
