The parents of a 19-year-old Camp Pendleton Marine who was killed in 2010 have restored a vintage Chevrolet truck to honor him, and his entire battalion. The truck was unveiled today at Six Flags in St. Louis.
Lance Cpl. Phillip Vennedge was a member of the 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, also called the Darkhorse Battalion. The 3/5 suffered the loss of 25 Marines between September 2010 and April 2011. Vinnedge was one of those killed. According to the Bellingham Herald:
Phillip Vinnedge had been in Afghanistan for 16 days when a roadside bomb exploded Oct. 13, 2010, killing him and three other soldiers. His parents, David and Julie Vinnedge, who now live in Missouri, decided to honor their son by restoring a truck, which is what Vinnedge intended to do once he completed his military service.
