Funeral Held For Camp Pendleton Marine Killed In Training Accident

Family and friends of Cpl. Nicholas Sell gathered today to celebrate the life of the fallen Camp Pendleton Marine, who died at the tender age of 21 in a training accident at Twentynine Palms on September 16.

Sell was killed when the tank he was riding in caught fire. Four other Marines were injured in the blaze.

According to an obituary in the Mail Tribune, Sell grew up in Eagle Point, Oregon, and graduated from Eagle Point High School in 2010 - the same year he enlisted in the Marine Corps. Two years later, he was deployed to Afghanistan, where he earned the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and Sea Service Deployment Ribbon.

Loved ones described Sell in his obituary as a vibrant young man...

His bright personality and love of life was carried with him in everything he did, whether it was with family, in the outdoors, or hanging out with friends...

His quick wit was unparalleled; he was happiest when he was with family and friends, or helping those in need.
Sell is survived by his parents, Randy and Kathy, and brothers Beau and Jeff. A memorial fund has been set up to help Sell's family in the wake of their loss.
