Coast Guard Rescues Injured Navy Sailor From Submarine Off San Diego Coast (Video)

U.S. Coast Guard Sector San Diego came to the rescue of an injured sailor aboard a Navy submarine on Friday night. The Coast Guard's helicopter crew medically evacuated the 22-year-old man via MH-60 Jayhawk from the sub to dry land, where he was then taken a San Diego-area hospital.

The submarine, based at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii, was roughly 160 miles off the coast of San Diego when the emergency took place, according to a Coast Guard news release:

The submarine's crew contacted the Coast Guard just before 5 p.m., requesting a medevac for a crewmember who had fallen and suffered possible head injuries.

The Jayhawk crew arrived on scene and hoisted the man into the aircraft at approximately 8:30 p.m.
The Navy has not released the condition of the injured sailor.

The Coast Guard filmed the medical evacuation, you'll find that video posted up top.
