New Ads, Endorsements Continue To Raise Profile Of Issa-Applegate Race
With President Obama's endorsement of Doug Applegate and Donald Trump's tweet of support for Darrell Issa, the unexpectedly tight race for the 49th Congressional District seat continues to draw attention.

New ads and endorsements continue to raise the profile of the 49th Congressional District race, where incumbent Congressman Darrell Issa, R-Vista, is fighting off a challenge from retired Marine colonel and attorney, Doug Applegate.

In two new ads, Applegate ties Issa to Donald Trump, emphasizing the Access Hollywood tape that showed the GOP presidential nominee talking about groping women.

Issa, in a TV spot, tries to paint Applegate’s policies as out of step with what has been a conservative district — highlighting problems with Applegate’s divorce and making sure voters know he is an attorney and not just a retired Marine.

Each side has spent more than $3 million since the primary — if you count outside groups like the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.

Applegate has been endorsed by President Obama.

Issa recently received an endorsement from Trump on Twitter.
