Cancer Series: Psychology of Cancer

Cancer is not a psychological condition, it's an illness. And for years, counseling and emotional therapy for cancer patients was thought to be something family and friends could do.

That's not the case any longer. Psychologists are now trained in cancer counseling: helping patients deal with the emotional challenges of the disease, the treatment and finding a new normal.

In our continuing series on cancer, KPBS Science and Technology Reporter Peggy Pico joins us with her personal experience with breast cancer. We also hear from a psycho-social oncologist who explains how he helps cancer patients.
