Coastal rail service in San Diego County will be shut down beginning Friday evening and continuing through the weekend so crews can work on a handful of construction and maintenance projects, according to the North County Transit District.
That means no Amtrak or NCTD Coaster trains Saturday and Sunday. The schedule also calls for several other weekend closures over the next three months.
The NCTD said the two late-night southbound Amtrak runs will terminate in Oceanside. Amtrak will offer bus service to and from San Diego, but the NCTD will not.
Service will resume in time for the Monday morning commute, but trains could run as much as 15 minutes later, according to the NCTD.
The agency cautioned residents that while there will be no passenger trains, other rail services could still operate over the weekend, so they should remain vigilant when crossing tracks.
Weekend closures are also planned for March 11-12, March 25-26, April 29- 30 and possibly May 20-21.
