SeaWorld's Revenue Declines 6 Percent In 2014

The fallout from the Blackfish documentary continues for SeaWorld, as its 2014 earnings report Thursday showed a continued decline in revenue.

For the fourth quarter of 2014, SeaWorld saw revenue of $264.5 million, down from $272 million for the same period in 2013. Revenue for the full year of 2014 was at $1,377 million, down from $1,460 million for 2013. That amounted to a six percent decline.

The drop in revenue was blamed on the fall in attendance, which was down at all SeaWorld parks from 23.4 million in 2013 to 22.4 million last year.

The company is also still searching for a permanent CEO.

"We are making progress on our search for a new CEO and are on pace to complete the process within the six to nine month time frame we originally estimated," said David D'Alessandro, chairman and interim CEO of SeaWorld, in a statement.

SeaWorld is expanding its killer whale tanks at all three of its marine parks. The new habitat at SeaWorld San Diego, dubbed the Blue World Project, will double the size of its existing facility. It is expected to be complete by 2018.
