The Navy temporarily relieved Command Master Chief Jesus Galura of his duties Jan. 7 on the USS Germantown, due to an investigation into sexual assault charges made against him by a crew member.
According to a Navy news release:
Because the investigation is ongoing, the Navy cannot provide details into the allegation.
After careful consideration, Capt. Heidi Agle, commodore, CPR-11, determined the investigation would negatively affect Galura's leadership ability and would be an unnecessary distraction to the command mission.
Command Master Chief Jeffrey Steinly will take over Galura's duties during the sexual assault investigation.
Galura joined the Navy in 1989. His Navy biography reports that he attended basic recruit training in July 1989 in San Diego. Galura then participated in Seaman Apprenticeship Training in San Diego, graduating as Class Honor man.
He became command master chief of the USS Germantown in 2011. The Germantown is forward deployed in Sasebo, Japan.
