Officials in Japan reject a U.S. request to lift a ban on American beef imports. They call for more information on the first case of so-called mad cow disease in the United States before acting. U.S. officials have traced the infected cow to Canada, but Canadian officials call the announcement premature. The USDA has recalled beef in eight U.S. states. Hear NPR's Ari Shapiro.
