Army Spc. Trinidad Santiago Jr., 25, of San Diego, was one of two soldiers killed May 2 in a vehicle accident at Camp Buehring in Kuwait, according to the Department of Defense.

Santiago and Pfc. Charles P. McClure, 21, of Stratford, Oklahoma, were both assigned to 4th Battalion, 42nd Field Artillery Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division at Fort Carson in Colorado.

According to the website Freedom Remembered, Santiago was a 2005 graduate of Hoover High School in San Diego.

His wife, Belgica Santiago, told Colorado newspaper The Gazette she became friends with her future husband at Hoover High:

"He was just - even in high school, he was just super nice. He never put himself first. He always thought about me and what was best for his family.

"That's why he re-enlisted. He was about to be done, but we got married and he was just thinking about his family and how he was going to provide (for them). "
And Trinidad's family was growing. Belgica is pregnant with their first child, due in October.
'We're just going to have this baby and think of him every day. I don't really have a plan just yet."
