Various agencies across San Diego County are offering free sandbags to property owners worried about flood-related damage as the first in a series of strong winter storms began drenching the region.

Sandbags can help prevent runoff, mud and debris from damaging homes, clogging storm drains and flooding roadways.

Supplies are limited. Some of the pickup spots are providing sand as well as bags, others only offer the sacks or require recipients to bring their own shovels. San Diegans are advised to call in advance.
