The Embarcadero at Seaport Village and East Mission Bay Park are the two of the most popular places to watch the most amazing kites in action. Bring the beach chairs and set up a picnic at one of the public picnic tables and sit back and watch the magical shapes and rainbow of colors dancing on the bay breezes. Is there a better way to enjoy an afternoon? If you want to go fly your own kite, try Mariner’s Point on Mission Bay . It’s usually not crowded, and there’s almost always a good wind. And you can see the wind direction from the flag atop the Hyatt Islandia hotel. It's great exercise-- exhilarating, even if the wind does most of the work.
One of the best times and places to watch the colorful displays filling the skies with aerial acrobatics is the second Saturday of each month at Tecolote Shores, off East Mission Bay Drive, south of the San Diego Hilton Resort, when the San Diego Kite Club meets here. It’s a great opportunity to see the latest in kite technology and flying techniques.
