Escondido Rental Ban Ordinance Challenged

Tom Fudge : Today, a San Diego County judge will consider a request to prevent a new Escondido ordinance from going into effect. A coalition of civil rights groups wants a temporary restraining order for the law that would punish landlords for renting to illegal immigrants.

A similar law, passed by a town in Pennsylvania, was put on hold by a judge just last month. The plaintiffs in the Escondido case argue the law is unfair and unconstitutional. We asked the city attorney for Escondido to join us on this program to defend the law. But the city turned us down. So we’re joined by a leader of one of the groups that’s suing: the ACLU.
