An El Cajon father cleaning his swimming pool was killed by a big rig that crashed through a fence and into his backyard.

The truck missed the man's 2½-year-old daughter, who wasn't physically harmed.

Police Lt. Steve Shakowski says the impact knocked the 38-year-old homeowner into the pool and the tractor-trailer rig's cab plunged deep into the water.

Kevin Vicary was alive when pulled out of the pool, but he died at a hospital.

The truck driver escaped with minor cuts.

The lieutenant says the truck was heading west on Dehesa Road at about 10:45 a.m. Monday when the driver of a Ford van ran a red light on northbound Granite Hills Drive and hit the truck.

The truck then hit two other cars before plowing through the fence and into Vicary's pool.
