New York-based Sky White Tiger are coming to the Andrews Art Gallery in Little Italy. They're planning a genuine psychedelic show, complete with a light installation by local video artists, Anna Chiaretta Lavatelli and Micki Davis.

After watching a few of Sky White Tiger's videos, I decided they remind me of Spiritualized/Spacemen 3: lots of shimmering keyboards, some nice guitar fills, and classic motortik drumming.

I saw Spiritualized a few years ago at Canes, and they were hardly psychedelic at all. In fact they were pretty boring--no light show either.

Sky White Tiger leader Louis Schwadron is promising a "long form fantasy" similar to a "live concept album." Schwardron used to be in Polyphonic Spree and Rufus Wainwright's band.

Could we be getting something along the lines of Hawkwind's "In Search of Space" or Amon Düül II's "Dance of the Lemmings " (oder " Tanz der Lemminge") or Kraftwerk's "Autobahn?" It sounds like something I've never seen here in San Diego, a classic drone band, complete with lights, at a downtown gallery. What more could you ask for?

As for the Andrews Art Gallery, I think my wife and I wandered in there during the Little Italy Art Walk this summer, but I could be wrong. From what I gather it's a relatively small, two-story space. And best of all admission to the gallery is free (my favorite price). Owner Drew Snyder says the place is looking sweet but not to expect anything too high-tech.

Here's a video of Sky White Tiger playing live in Brooklyn. The song is "Sitting on Top of the World."
