This is the story of African migration in the 21st Century. It's about one woman’s journey to freedom. A child born in conflict, Fahema fled Ethiopia with her family at the age 5 during the Civil War.

Fahema was raised in a restrictive traditional community, in Sudan. Her whole life was planned out for her by her mother — where she would live, what she would do, and most importantly whom she would marry.

She now lives in the United States. Though fluent in Arabic and English, she still keeps alive her native Amharic language, a vital link to her Ethiopian heritage.
